We use different resins for different applications and there are a multitude of different resins on the market. The ones we use in our studio are:
Flow Resins - Art Flow - this is ideal for when the resin is just sitting on top of a surface like coasters, cheeseboards and clocks as it's nice and thick and gives a beautiful dome finish.
Flow Resins - Easy Flow is what we use for small projects as it's a 6 hour fast cure. We use this for resin jewellery. Please note this cures quickly if left in containers more than an inch deep.
Health of Mind Art - River Resin - this is perfect for river tables or deep pours as the clarity is stunning and you can pour 100mm deep in 1 go. The curing time is 7 full days.

Flow Resins - Art Flow - 30 - 35min
Flow Resins - Easy Flow - 20 min
Health of Mind Art - River Resin - 1 hour

NOTE: resin is very susceptible to heat, the warmer the weather the shorter your working time. As a guide, art flow on a 40 degree day with no aircon will give you 5 -8 min working time. Easy Flow once mixed is best divided into multiple containers about 10mm deep or it will cure faster.

We recommend 3 days for Flow Resins Art Flow, 6hours for Flow Resin Easy Flow and a full 7 days for Health of Mind's River Resin

No we don't, our paint mix is designed to achieve cells every time. We also don't use silicone oil because we cover our coasters in resin and resin and oil don't mix. You can however use a couple of drops in your paint mix or spray over your canvas straight from the bottle.

We add 3 or 4 drops of glycerine to 99% isopropyl alcohol. Glycerine can be bought from your supermarket.

Most are okay however we don't recommend WA Pine as the wood is too soft. Resin cures rock hard and pine will bow. If you're choosing to play on Kmart boards we suggest checking them for any cracks beforehand.

Generally they are okay to put resin straight on however please be aware we are finding more and more boards have some form of oil on them and resin does not like any form of oil.

Resin will push away from any oil and leave you with little divots. If you are unsure just do a light sand where you plan to resin using a 120grit sand paper.

This does take a little bit of time to get the hang of, rather than waste resin I highly recommend doing one of our resin classes as we teach this in every class. Using the right white seriously helps, we use U Resin's white paste as this gives amazing lacing. We also suggest using a heat gun & bruleë torch.
